how to make homemade vanilla ice cream without an ice cream maker. The recipe is below. Find more recipes like this one at erinsfoodtopia.com. Enjoy!
homemade ice cream without an ice cream maker
2 cups whole milk
8 egg yolks
3/4 cup sugar
2 cups whipping cream
2 tablespoons vanilla
1 teaspoon kosher salt or 1/2 teaspoon salt
1. In medium heavy saucepan whisk together milk, egg yolks, and sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a rubber spatula, until the custard coats the back of the spatula.
2. Strain custard through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl placed in a larger bowl of ice water. If you don’t have a large enough bowl, fill one side of the sink with ice water and place the bowl of custard in there and stir until cooled. Stir in whipping cream, vanilla, and kosher salt. Cover and chill for 4 to 24 hours.
3. Pour the chilled mixture in a large glass freezer-safe dish and freeze thirty minutes. Then whisk or stir to break up any large frozen chunks. Continue doing this for about two hours or until the consistency of soft-serve ice cream. Then place in a covered freezer container and freeze to ripen (harden) for at least 4 hours.
I found a very old abandoned Softdrink Refrigerator , and I thought that it would be a nice dust-proof cabinet for my computer which keeps on accumulating dusts and cobwebs inside its ATX casing (not to mention creepy crawlers I found inside). I’m sure that’s what’s been shortening my computer’s life.
So, veering away from the IBM-PC Desktop design, I then rebuilt almost all my computer components inside the old fridge (I left the input devices and printer outside). That’s after I repainted it and set a powerful ventilation system.
It now looks like a huge 18″ x 30″ SU with an LCD Monitor inside, seen through the glass door. It was really intentional to show internals through a glass door, so that I could still monitor if ever there would still be creepy crawlers that gets inside, and of course to monitor also the CPU fan.
The principles were really so simple. Anyone with tech knowledge could relate to the procedures I made. It was really so simple as it was aimed as a project with no cost at all, but unfortunately I had to buy the spray paint, and the six 5″ x 5″ fans. I also broke my father’s power drill, and had to replace it. I also upgraded the RAM from its previous 384Mb to 1.2Gb. My expenses were still a little under 5,000 (Php) around this project. Too bad, one just can’t get away with a freebie anymore.
